Types Of Munchkin Cat Breeds
Unlike other cat breeds and animals, and humans in general, Munchkin cats seldom suffer or develop diseases such as cancer or diabetes during their short lives. The extra short legs contribute to the nickname of the breeds, the dachshund of the cat world, since Munchkin cats instead stand on the small side. Skookum cats have similar characteristics to lambs but shorter legs than Munchkins and curly-haired cats, such as LaPerm cats. Munchkin cat breeds have a genetic leg mutation but are generally healthy.
The Bambino cat has cute short legs due to pseudoachondroplasia coming from the side of her mouth and hairlessness coming from the sphincter side. The Dwelf Cat has the classic leggy features of all eight breeds with hairlessness and the sphynx curled ears of the American Curled Cat. Finally, the bright-eyed Napoleon Cat seems to integrate the tiny legs of the Munchkins and the short snout of the Persian to take the best out of both worlds.

The genetic mutation that causes the short-legged trait in Munchkin cats is called achondroplasia [8], although it is not proven that it is due to a gene in the same place as that that causes the disease in humans. Other cat breeds suffer from lordosis, a condition where the spinal muscles become too short to allow the spine to sink into the cat’s body (Pectus excavatum ).
